Fibromyalgia: The Invisible Illness, Not its Sufferers

Janie Chan is a Junior in the Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Hunter College on the pre-med track. She is double majoring in Biological Sciences (BA) and Studio Art (BA) and is expected to graduate in May 2025. She is researching the modes of metastasis for pancreatic cancer in transgenic mice at the Nancy Du lab at Weill Cornell Medicine. She ultimately wishes to pursue a career as a physician scientist to indulge in her desire to make a human impact while also appeasing her interest in research. She engages in her love for medicine by shadowing doctors at Mount Sinai Morningside’s Emergency Department and expands on her clinical experiences at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and NYU Langone. She also creatively engages her interest in medicine through animations and video editing for the DoctorsInn podcast as well as editing for the Society of Bioethics and Medicine blog. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, she plans to obtain a medical degree and work alongside healthcare professionals to provide better therapeutic treatments for cancer and women’s health.
